The Conditions of Carriage set out the operator’s [Transdev Auckland Limited, a Transdev Australasia company] and passenger’s obligations with regards to travel on the Auckland Passenger Rail Network.

Ticketing on the rail network.
There are now two ticketing systems in operation, the new paper tickets and the new AT HOP card.
Customers need to have either an AT HOP card and ‘tag on’ at a station validation machine and ‘tag off’ at your destination or have a paper ticket showing you have paid for your train fare.
Customers can use cash (at some machines), EFTPOS and credit card to buy train tickets from Ticket & Top Up machines at station. *Please note that these tickets are only valid for two hours from the time of purchase.
You will need to buy a ticket before you board as tickets will no longer be sold onboard from Monday 31 December

The new AT HOP card.
The new prepay card, the AT HOP card, is now available across the Auckland rail network.
You can buy one for the one off cost of $10 and gives you a discount of at least 10% on standard fares.
Mobile ticket officers are checking that customers are using their AT HOP cards to ‘tagging on’ and ‘off’ as required.

Purchasing train ticket and passes before travelling.
All people travelling on a train must purchase a ticket and retain it for the duration of the journey.
If you are travelling from Britomart, Newmarket, New Lynn or Papakura you should buy your ticket at the station ticket office or the Ticket & Top Up Machine before you board the train.
